MAY 14, 2009: CJ PLENARY - THE STATE OF EDUCATION FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
America's public schools enroll about 5 million English language learners (ELLs) - twice the number from just 15 years ago. Educators across the country are working to identify programs to help ELL students and their parents to learn English.
Representatives from Albemarle County Public Schools, including Courtney Stewart, International & ESOL Coordinator, Gloria Rockhold, Coordinator of Latino Community Relations, and Laura Brown, Family Support, will provide an overview of ELL demographics, human stories that relate both challenges and triumphs, and how the County is helping students and their families adjust and succeed in school.
Registration, Coffee & Donuts begin at 9:45 am. The Roundtable will begin promptly at 10:00 am and will be adjourned at 11:30 am to allow attendees time to network. As always, this CJ event will be held in Room A of the Albemarle County Building on 5th Street Extd. Free – Public Invited. For more information contact Gloria Rockhold at: grockhold@k12albemarle.org
