Amigos: Conozcan
tus derechos, an event sponsored by Creciendo Juntos members Legal
Aid Justice Center, Church of the Incarnation, Zona Latina, and
Chandler Law Group, was held on Monday, May 14 from 6-8 pm at
the Church of the Incarnation Parish Activity Center. The Zona
Latina immigration special was aired, which featured both an interview
with Angela Kelley, National Immigration Forum, and a section
on what to do if authorities stop an immigrant on the street or
in their home.
Following
the Zona Latina video, bilingual lawyers from Legal Aid Justice
Center and Chandler Law Group gave educational presentations and
took questions from the audience on questions ranging from filing
for taxes with an ITIN, renewing driver's licenses, and new legislation.
After the event, the lawyers were available to be approached one-on-one
to speak to individuals on the topic. Much written material was
available in both Spanish and English to further educate immigrants
on the subject.
Nearly 200
local Latino residents attended the event.
