Learn Spanish
|
Charlottesville has traditional and non-traditional opportunities to learn Spanish.
Among traditional opportunities, University of Virginia and Piedmont Community College offer fee based Spanish classes. Speak! and Charlottesville Spanish Services also offer individual and group classes and occasionally Speak! also provides free conversational classes.
“Tertulia” is a custom common in many parts of Latin America. Groups meet at the same time, same place, every day, once a week, or once a month, usually at a café, to discuss the news, politics and other issues. In the U.S. a Spanish conversation group is a kind of tertulia offering participants an opportunity to build on their basic Spanish language skills by listening to and speaking the language. While attendance is usually not mandatory, the quality of these groups is often linked to the regular attendance of its members.
