TERTULIAS - SPANISH COVERSATION GROUPS – IN CVILLE

“Tertulia” is a custom common in many parts of Latin America. Groups of friends meet at the same time, same place, every day, once a week, or once a month, usually at a café, to discuss the news, politics and other issues.

A Spanish conversation group is a kind of tertulia offering participants an opportunity to build on their basic Spanish language skills by listening to and speaking the language. While attendance is usually not mandatory, the quality of these groups is often linked to the regular attendance of its members.

FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH: Lunching in Spanish
Time: Noon (please be punctual) on the first
Admission: Bring your lunch and enjoy speaking in Spanish for an hour with native speakers, people just learning the language, and others who want to practice it. The Spanish language lunches will begin again on September 7.

MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS: Café Bolivar Tertulía
Time: 4 – 5 p.m.
Admission: Semiweekly conversation gathering for learners and speakers of Spanish open to all members of the Charlottesville and University community. All levels of Spanish are welcome and there will be refreshments and coffee.

TUESDAY EVENINGS: Cville Coffee Spanish Conversation Group
Time: 7 – 9 p.m.
Admission: Come when you can; all levels of Spanish are welcome.

WEEKLY: CHARLOTTESVILLE SPANISH LANGUAGE MEETUP

Admission: Formed in June 2007, this group is about having a place, usually La Taza, where we can speak Spanish with one another and hear it spoken while relaxing in a fun social setting. We will get a chance to meet new people, improve our Spanish language skills, and help others who are interested in improving theirs. This is a group for people who have once been fluent, are still fluent, or are only just starting to learn the language (all levels are welcome). Newcomers are always welcome. There is a $1\month fee.
